Ballard
This is a tiny lot with a wedge shaped corner entrance up to the house. We were hired after the arbor had been built and we enhanced it with a robust Cecile Brunner rose and a horizontal Mt. Fuji cherry tree to create some aerial mass. The asymmetrical use of the evergreen arborvitae spires balances the picture.
Mercer Island
Standard commercial landscaping has few redeeming qualities, so it was a real opportunity to do something different when asked to update the landscaping at St. Monica's church. Striving to choose plants with the right mood for a church... hmmm... a meditative garden? We chose dark green as a strong base color using yew and evergreen Magnolia for the bones...both classic and formal. Stewartia, Styrax, and Viburnum, filled in deciduous structure providing spring bloom and fall color.
Kirkland Rocks
Architecture that hides the entrance to the house calls out for a very strong visual directive.
Massive Columbia Basalt boulders were placed to lure us up the stairs and into the back side yard where we find…the front door!! Plantings are northwest native mountain hemlocks
